Before I jump into this, I want to give a HUGE shoutout to our amazing wedding photographer, Alyssa Barletter Photography! She not only produced incredible imagery documenting our day, she was the most amazing person to work with throughout the entire process! If you didn’t know, Alyssa and I became fast friends - so much so, that she even was a guest at my bachelorette party! She is such a light in this world and has me cracking up every time I’m with her. I’m so lucky to have met her, became friends with her and had her be part of my big day! I couldn’t recommend her enough, and if you aren’t sold on her - then check out how much fun she is at your wedding below!

5 Must Capture Moments on Your Wedding Day

There is so much happening on your wedding day and it absolutely flies by! Every moment is so filled with love, laughter and happiness, you want to remember it all! But looking back, and looking through our photos, I realized there are a couple of moments that you absolutely MUST capture on your big day! They are the moments that you’ll want to look back on, relive and remember forever! So, today, I’m sharing the 5 must capture moments on your wedding day!

  1. Getting Ready With Your Wedding Party

I’ve heard a lot of people cut down their photography package hours to reduce cost - which I completely understand that some people need to do that to make things work. HOWEVER, your wedding day is more than just the ceremony/reception. The whole day is magical and the whole day flies by. You’ll have little moments that you want to remember throughout, so I would 100% suggest having your photographer there for as long as possible the day of.

2. Your Bridesmaids Seeing You In Your Dress

^^^my favorite photo of all time, tbh.

Your first look with your dad, the family photos, dancing, etc… those are the photos that always get taken. But I don’t always see photos of the bride getting revealed to her bridesmaids for the first time. You’re going to get an array of reactions and it is so raw and beautiful! Plus, if you’re like me, your nerves are going to be running high. This moment just boosted my mood and allowed me to sink into the moment of it all finally happening! If there’s one thing your girls are going to do when seeing you for the first time, it’s make you feel beautiful!

3. Seeing One Another Down The Aisle

The absolute most beautiful, raw and emotional moment of our wedding day was seeing one another as I turned to walk down the aisle. If I could relive that one second for every day of the rest of my life, I would never be tired of it. We decided not to do a first look - Logan wanted to be traditional in this aspect. Leading up to this moment, my nerves were completely wrecked. I had thrown up I was so anxious to see him! And then they opened the doors, my dad and I started to walk out. He said to me, “This is it. You ready?” I couldn’t even speak. We walked about 5 steps, during which I took in everyone standing, looking at me, smiling. And then I rounded the corner and saw the most beautiful, loving man sanding there. His reaction was everything I had ever dreamed of growing up - someone that loved me so much, was so excited to be my husband, standing there looking at me like that. (Watch out for more on this - I’m sharing my favorite moments from our wedding and why, as well as why we chose to NOT do a first look next Monday!)

4. The Moments That Were Special For Your Day

We lost my Papa back in 2014. He was the most incredible man and the glue for our family. Not having him there, dancing with me on my wedding day caused so many tears throughout the planning process and the morning of. My incredible aunt made sure that he was there walking down the aisle with me.

One of the things I have from my Papa is the bottle of Maker’s Mark that was the last he opened. I’ve taken shots (he had a love/hate relationship with the fact that I was his whiskey girl!) during all the special moments of life that he couldn’t be physically present for.

So for our entrance, for the first time, I shared that bottle with someone. Logan and I both, in a very “us” way, took pulls from his bottle as our entrance to the reception. Those who knew about the bottle obviously loved it, and those who didn’t loved it because it was just so us!

Being from STL means you are part of #CardsNation. Logan is from Kansas City and a big Royals fan (a debate in our household obviously - but we all know the STL is a better franchise ;) ) My dad KILLED his speech and during it, was sure to welcome Logan to the best family, the Cardinals family! It was so perfect because Logan, my dad and brother actually go to games together all the time when we’re back in STL and my dad is a HUGE, lifelong fan of the Cardinals!

My sorority has a “chapter song” that we love to sing when we are out - it’s a song that just reminds us, no matter where we are or who we are with, that we have sisters who love us everywhere. It’s become a tradition at Alpha weddings to put the bride up on a chair and serenade her with the song. It was just a fun little moment that I had been looking forward to since the first Alpha wedding I attended back in 2011!

Okay, so this is a bunch of moments in one - I know! But overall, I totally recommend doing things that make your wedding YOU and represents you as a couple. Those special moments are going to make your day unique and be what ties everyone together. Make sure to communicate those moments with your photographer/videographer so that they can capture them and ensure you’re able to relive them over and over again!

5. You and Your SO Soaking It All In

People will tell you that the day goes by so quickly and you’ll be pulled in so many directions (which is true) that you won’t be able to spend much time one-on-one with you significant other (SO). I said, SCREW THAT. I wanted to spend every moment with Logan and I made it happen haha! So take a second, whether you are stuck to one another’s hips all night or out entertaining guests, take a moment. Just dance together, take a look out at all of the people who are there to celebrate you because they love you, and soak it all in. And hopefully your photographer will be able to capture the pure bliss on your faces when you do!
