Hey there, pretty lady! I’m so happy you’re here today!
I have to be honest, I had a couple of rough days last week. A few things happened in multiple areas in my life that had me feeling down. Like I was life’s punching bag. *OUCH*
In the past, I’ve let times that I was feeling down about life and myself spiral into an episode of anxiety and depression. I used to let it make me start second guessing everything in my life, push people away and feel worse about who I am.
But this time, I didn’t want that. I didn’t want to wallow in self-pity. I didn’t want to let decisions others were making to make me feel bad about myself and my amazing, wonderful life.
So I started looking up different things to make me feel happy. I started at the obvious, puppy videos, which definitely picked up my mood for a bit. But it didn’t really solve the problem, because the next time something went wrong, there I was… holding back tears.
I didn’t want to wallow in self-pity.
So I decided to be happy.
I knew I wanted to be proactive about how I felt because, sometimes, life is just going to beat you up a bit. So I started looking up different quotes and mantras to write down and carry around with me until I got out of this crappy feeling.
And you know what? Reading them, writing them down and re-reading them really did help. It got me through a tough week feeling stronger than I started.
So boo boo. I know that you’ve probably had these times too and, unfortunately, we will again. So here are the # things I told myself to pick me back up!
10 Things to Tell Yourself When You’re Feeling Down
“God has big plans for me.” Listen, it sounds cliche… “God [life] won’t give you more than you can handle.” But I really do think it is true. And even if you aren’t convinced, fake it ‘til you make it, girl! Because reminding yourself that your #EndGame is out there will help you get through anything.
“My challenges bring me better opportunities.” Again, focus on your end goals. Every challenge makes you stronger (yes, I’m avidly avoiding quoting Kanye.)
“I am me and nobody does me better than me!” The most important thing that you can do in this life is be yourself and be true to yourself. As long as you’re doing that, you’re doing fine, boo boo.
“I am stronger than I think right now.” Whatever life throws at you, you can handle it. Just keep telling yourself that you are stronger than you think, you can handle more than you think
“Just one more [step].” Each step you take, each goal you tackle, each minute you stay up later to complete a project… just one more. Celebrate those little achievements and push yourself for the next one.
“Tomorrow is a new day, a fresh start.” It’s okay to have sh*tty days, girl! We all do! And it’s okay to take a day to sit on your couch, binge sh*tty Netflix movies and cram your mouth full of Chunky Chocolate Chip Ice Cream. But just remember, the next day is a fresh start. So prepare to wake up the following day and absolutely kill it!
“I have so many strengths that the world needs from me!” You don’t have to be good at everything. HECK! You won’t be good at everything (unless you are Beyonce) and that is A-OKAY, babe! But just remember, you do have strengths and you have them for a reason.
“Not everyone will like me and that’s okay.” It’s not your fault that you aren’t someone’s cup of tea, and it isn’t your responsibility to alter yourself to make them like you. It is okay if you aren’t someone’s favorite flavor, because there are people out there that aren’t yours.
“It’s okay to not be okay.” It’s okay to not be okay sometimes. It’s okay to have a moment, or a million moments. Just know that things will turn around.
“There are people cheering for me.” You have people in your corner that want the best for you, believe in you and are cheering for your success. When you’re feeling down, lean on them and let them lift you up.
Just remember, babe, we can get through this. You have everything it takes inside you.
I love you, I’m cheering for you.
